After earning a MBA from St. Mary’s University and a B. Sc. in Geology from the University of British Columbia, Douglas began his career at Van Helden Agencies in 1990, after work experience as a petroleum geologist for Pan Canadian Petroleum and Dome Petroleum; and commercial banking experience for TD. He became the President of Van Helden Agencies in 1995.
He holds various designations including: Certified Insurance Professional (CIP) and Certified Advisor of Personal Insurance (CAPI). His focus on growing the business through organic relationships has positioned Van Helden Agencies as a leading independent personal and commercial insurance brokerage in the Calgary community. Douglas is a supporter of the independent broker and has served as a Director of the Insurance Brokers Association of Alberta. He is also a member of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists.
